Carbon Monoxide is a Very Serious Threat
Thursday, January 26th, 2012
Carbon monoxide poisoning is a very serious threat. Carbon monoxide kills lots of people every year. Most of the deaths related to carbon monoxide could have been prevented with the use of carbon monoxide detector. There are lots of different brands of carbon monoxide detectors on the market today most of which are extremely affordable. A company called kidde makes one of the top selling brands of carbon monoxide detectors. Kidde makes the Nighthawk carbon monoxide detector, which is widely available in most hardware stores and retail outlets like Wal-Mart or Target. The main difference between the Kidde Nighthawk carbon monoxide detector and other carbon monoxide alarms is that the Nighthawk uses a digital display, which shows you in real time the level of carbon monoxide in the room. Most other carbon monoxide detectors just make a noise when the carbon monoxide levels are too high. While knowing the actual levels is a nice feature, it is not really necessary to save lives and protect your family.

I Always Think of the Best Parkland Electrician I Know of
Monday, January 23rd, 2012
Whenever I hear anyone mention that they need an electrician I always think of the best Parkland electricianI know of. And without a doubt that is Elcon electric. I have done business with them for three years and I have been in the Parkland area since I was a child. I have at least referred them to several people throughout my church, neighborhood, and community. It seems as though I would get a referral fee or a finder’s fee of some sort! Unfortunately out of all the services that they do offer, I do not think that they offer that one. If they did I would be a very rich woman by now. I know they do help with free services when people do send business their way occasionally. I have had a young man come out and do a safety inspection twice so far in the past couple of years. And that was just a service that they offered to do for free.

You Can Identify Energy Leaks with the HomeMadeEnergy System
Sunday, January 15th, 2012
When you want to get the monthly electric bills under control, you should start with an energy audit of your home. I learned this using the homemadeenergy system, which I got access to after I became a subscriber on the website. I learned about energy distribution, and how this can affect the total energy usage of the appliances in your home. Apparently, by calculating the energy usage of each and every appliance and electrical component in your home, you can build a spreadsheet with all of the monthly values and their overall contribution to your monthly electric bill. By doing this, we solved the mystery of why our electric bill has been out of control for the past 8 months, despite our attempts to limit everyone’s electricity usage in every room in the house. We had even installed timers throughout the house, which turns out to be one of the recommendations of the homemadeenergy system.

Carpet Article over Capitalizing with Renovations
Sunday, January 15th, 2012
Renovating any property can be a fun experience. It’s very likely that you have already seen those shows where they literally transform a not-so-appealing house into an abode worthy of being called a small palace. If you consider renovating, you might already have ideas for the different styles to be used for the bathroom, kitchen, exterior, carpet, lighting etc. Most owners like renovating their property with the goal to make it appear better and more livable, while others do it as an investment with the hopes of garnering future rewards when the house is sold. However, when renovating, it’s very easy to go all out and get a little carried away thus overcapitalizing on it. Spending way too much on renovations and getting nothing in return is a bad thing; that fact we already know. Renovations are supposed to have limits with estimated returns that should ideally be higher than what was spent. Overcapitalizing is more common nowadays since there are lower rates for property appreciation and higher prices for the amenities, like the flooring, carpet etc.
Although there is a higher risk in overspending, it is still very possible to achieve that certain control when renovating as long as you keep a few things in mind.
Number 1:
Try to acquire an appraisal for the property from a real estate commercial appraiser. You will need the information as to how much the property is worth before making a decision on how much you should spend on renovations and especially on the smaller things to keep it in style, like dry walls, carpet etc. You may also inquire the real estate appraiser of a valuation change should something be added on the property, like new spaces for an office complete with flooring and carpet.
Number 2:
Try to request for a market analysis that is comparative to the other properties from real estate brokers to know exactly how much value will get added AFTER renovating. You may also speak to the broker regarding what you should be aware of about trends in the market as they may affect your decision.
Number 3:
When setting a budget for renovation, make sure that it doesn’t go over the difference of how much value the property currently has and the value it will have after the renovation is done. Also, include additional costs for things like revenue loss because of the construction, surveys and even the permits. Self-control is vital for this step as most people would definitely have a hard time controlling their wallets especially if a design catches their eyes.
Number 4:
If you are having problems with setting a budget, you could consult a contractor to obtain rough estimate as to how much it may cost. You can also hire the contractor to make sure that when working on the property, what they do will not exceed the limit of the estimate except to a degree of which you both can agree upon.
Number 5:
Working together with the contractor of your choosing is a definite must in order to finalize the plans as well as adapting to any changes that may occur in order to stick to the budget.
Now, with these things in mind, you’re sure to be well armed and ready to face renovation without straining your wallet.

A Home Interior to Call Your Own
Sunday, January 1st, 2012
Having your own house is one thing; making it a home of your very own is another. The inside of your abode tells a lot about who you are, so take time to think about possible themes and design inspirations. Whether you live alone, share a house with a partner or occupy a house with your entire family, giving your residence “a personal touch” through decorations is personally fulfilling and constantly uplifting.
A home interior to call your own is one that reflects your personal taste, interests and lifestyle. Before you begin buying furniture and other materials such as paint and wallpaper, think about the style you would like to follow. Remember that you should pick a style that really tickles your fancy and reflects your personality, instead of settling for a theme just because it is what most of your friends or your favorite celebrities have.
Retro, contemporary, vintage or country-specific-the list goes on and you have many options. Choose one that you are excited about and leave some room for upgrading in the years to come.

Do I Need to Buy Two?
Monday, December 26th, 2011
I was about to buy a paint sprayer, but before I did that, I wanted to read a few paint sprayer reviews. Basically, I wanted to learn about them as much as possible before buying one. Well, now that I did, I am not unable to buy one.
I definitely do want to get a paint sprayer, but I plan on painting both the interior and exterior of my house. According to that site and many others, I need to get an HVLP paint sprayer for the interior and an airless paint sprayer for the exterior. I just don’t know if I have the money to buy both. That would cost nearly $800 when I was initially looking to spend only around $300.
It’s kind of ironic. I wanted a paint sprayer and I was about to buy one. However, I wanted to know more about them. This newfound knowledge I have of paint sprayers is what is preventing me from buying one. I now know that I need two.

Slugs: Quick Tips to Kill Them
Thursday, December 15th, 2011
Slugs are notorious for destroying fruit and vegetable plants, as well as other plants, when feeding in the night hours. Getting rid of slugs ranks high on the list of most gardener’s agendas for this very reason.
Here are some ways to get rid of slugs and save the garden:
- Prune back low-hanging leaves. While you don’t have to do this on a daily basis, it helps to do this every now and then.
- Clean out all dead leaves, as well as debris from the garden. Dead leaves do fall on occasion, so make sure that they are kept up.
- Water the garden in the early morning, rather than the last thing done in the evening. This not only helps with slugs, it’s going to help with your plants as well in terms of growth.
- Scatter egg shells around the base of plants to create a barrier they can’t cross over. Slugs tend to stay away from things such as egg shells.
- Use 2 liter soda bottles cut in half placed over the plants, spout down, to create a barrier for little plants. This is a cheap alternative that just about anyone can use.
- For large planters, wrap copper tape around the rim to keep slugs out
There are a number of over the counter methods used to get rod of slugs, however some gardeners believe this is a less humane method. Typically, the over the counter materials are in pellet form and are quite effective. Another alternative is using empty tuna or cat food cans. Burry the can so it is level with the ground, and fill it with beer. The slugs are drawn to the beer, and drown. Of all the methods, beer is the best for how to get rid of slugs.

Sunday, December 11th, 2011
When Simon drove the station wagon, he felt nausea and sometimes getting itchy and stuffy nose. It is no wonder because his wife often uses the car daily to bring their kids to school and back, and most of the time the kids would make a mess of the car with food, drinks and other junks. So Simon took the time to clean up and planned to get a humidifier for the wagon. He browsed the Crane humidifier reviews and bought one that he found simple and affordable. With the new humidifier it helps eliminate the bad odor in the car and make the air more refreshed. It helps to prevent molds from growing thus giving them a better cleaner quality air to breathe. Setting Up a Workshop at Home
Monday, December 5th, 2011
I’ve always enjoyed working on home improvement projects, but I’ve never had a proper workshop where I could get jobs done. I recently decided to use half of our two car garage as a personal workshop space. I setup a large work table, as well as installed shelves and cabinets to hold all my tools and supplies. I also had a friend who is an electrician come in and reconfigure the wiring so I’ll have lots of outlets available, as well as some new florescent lighting so I’ll have good light for working. The new workshop has already proven it’s worth. I recently completed a renovation on the small half bathroom on the first floor of our house. I was able to use the workshop to create some inexpensive cabinets that would have cost a lot if I’d had them made by local cabinet makers. I’m looking forward to getting lots of new projects completed as well.

Cleaning Your Vertical Blinds
Monday, November 28th, 2011
If you have a vertical blind in your house, you will know that it can easily gather dust and get dirty, leaving it looking old and unattractive. Give your vertical blinds a weekly vacuum in order to minimise the need for thorough washes. If one or two of the blinds have spots on that are very dirty, you can first try and spot clean these with wet wipes. This saves you having to take down the entire blind for one small dirt mark. Occasionally you will have to take down the blinds to give them a good cleaning. To wash vertical blinds, you can pour some lukewarm water in the bath tub and add some washing detergent. Soak the blinds in the bath tub for a while before swirling them around a bit. This should get most of the dust and dirt out. Then, hang them over the back of a chair or from clothes pegs to dry.
